ABOUT SOUTH POINT
EditJacques Cousteau enjoyed scuba diving in Sipadan Island in Malaysia where he could admire the colorful and diverse underwater life. Year after year, lots of scuba divers come to explore this magnificent place, located at the eastern part of Malaysia, the north-eastern coast of Borneo. Along with the Galapagos Islands and Truk in Micronesia, Sipadan is amongst the best places for scuba diving in the world.
Sipadan boasts 3000 fish species and hundreds of coral species of reefs, tropical fish of bright neon colors, barracudas, snapper, parrotfish, longfin bannerfish, angelfish, unicorn fish, black-spotted moray eels, rabbitfish, butterfly fish, turtles and lots of shark species. This diving resort is spectacular and exciting. This island features dive sites like Barracuda Point, Coral Garden, the Hanging Gardens, or Turtle Cavern.
South Point is a well-known dive site with is exotic tropical flora and fauna. It is located southeast to Sipadan. Divers may spot sharks here, hammerheads, thresher sharks, and white-tip reef sharks, they usually stay in the deep waters, 40 metres. Divers may also come across green turtles. The South Point is meant for seasoned and experienced divers. It is a great site for drift dives, advanced dives and wall diving. Currents might be strong, the visibility is about 10 to 30 metres. The waters are warm, 26-30 Celsius degrees.
Diving season never shuts down in Sipadan. However, diving is more convenient from April to December. The best timing is July and August. The rainy season starts in December and it lasts until March, during these months, the weather conditions are not good for boat trips or scuba diving. January and February are the least favorable months.
