ABOUT FILLADHOO WRECK

Filladhoo Wreck plan
With the kind permission of iDive Maldives

The ship Captain Pentails sunk in 1963 on the southeast coast of Filladhoo Island. Since then, the ship wreck has been laying 15 meters deep underwater, and can still be seen from the surface. Even though it is damaged, you can still easily identify the stern, propeller and part of the engine.
You can find a wide range of wildlife around the ship like stingrays, nurse sharks, whitetip sharks, nudibranchs, jacks, chevron barracudas, snappers, fusiliers, groupers, soldier fish and moray eels. You might also meet large bottlenose dolphins and get closer if you are patient enough.

The exploration starts right above the wreck. The visit often begins at the stern, which is the deepest part. Stingrays usually hide in the propeller area, nurse sharks can be found under the metal beams of the ship, while the engine block hosts many other fishes.

The ascent can be done anywhere and with the help of an SMB, preferably away from the wreck for an easier recovery.

This diving site is accessible to beginners, but a special attention should be kept on metal parts that can move in the current. Nudibranchs, flatworms and shrimp often take refuge on the wreck, so be careful when you hold on to metal parts. You can dive at this site throughout the year.
