ABOUT FUSHI KANDU
The protected dive site of Fushi Kandu in the Dhaalu Atoll is a north-south-oriented channel located to the west of Meedhuffushi Island. A long thila crosses the channel’s entrance on an east-west axis.
Hosting a large variety of species, incoming currents allow divers to encounter sharks, eagle rays, humphead wrasses and other large fish at the ocean side, but also nurse sharks and stingrays at the bottom.
The water entry can be done in the blue, in the middle of the channel as well as on the west and east bends.
Divers can drift with the current to explore a large area of the site, then go back to the thila or at the rear of the pinnacle.
It might be difficult to determine the best point of entry, so a good current check will be necessary.
This site is accessible during the northeast monsoon, and is adapted for divers of an intermediate level, who might need to use a reef hook in order to preserve the area.
