Kuredhdhoo Kandu, or Kuredu Express, is the most famous site of the Lhaviyani Atoll, and is an inevitable dive especially during incoming currents. Located at the East of Kuredu Island, a wide North-South sandy bottomed channel connects the ocean to the atoll. Located at more than 30 meters deep, the edge of the channel also has overhangs at all depths.
The water entry can be done on the outer reef or directly at the channel mouth. You will need to enter with no air in the BCD and spend minimum time at the surface.
The exploration can start around the outer North reef, but the most impressive and rich wildlife can be seen at the Northeast corner. When you get close to the no-decompression limit or 50 bars, you can then drift along the channel with the reef on your left. Ascending away from the reef will facilitate the recovery by the dhoni.
This dive site is accessible throughout the year, for intermediate divers. Experience in the current will be helpful, you can also bring a reef hook.
