THE MALDIVES

Pristine warm turquoise waters, colourful reefs with abundant and diverse marine life and a huge variety of dive sites are just some of the reasons why the Maldives are one of the most desirable dive destinations in the world, high on every diver’s bucket list. Add to this the idyllic, postcard-perfect white sand beaches and the high-standard facilities founded throughout the archipelago and you a have a quick glimpse of why non-divers also dream of spending their holidays on this exclusive destination. This archipelago in the Indian Ocean has nearly 1 200 gorgeous islands, of which around only 300 are inhabited. However, underwater is where the real thrill is: close encounters with big, majestic pelagic like whale sharks or hammerheads and with the largest population of reef manta rays take place on a customary basis. The nutrient-rich waters originated by the often present currents feed a vast range of fish, corals, sponges, gorgonians and other marine species. To top it up, the visibility is amazing all year round! Learn more about diving in the Maldives.

THE BOAT

A liveaboard on the luxurious Blue Force One is the best way to ensure you make the most out of your holidays in the Maldives in a stylish, comfortable and safe way and turn them into a truly memorable experience. This boat is amongst the top vessels operating in the Maldives and there is a reason why it was awarded the “Best Built Liveaboard 2014” by the Maldives Liveaboard Association: it was custom-built having in mind all the needs of both divers and non-divers. This means that divers can explore one of the world’s top diving destinations under superb conditions while their non-diver travel partners relax by indulging in the multiple entertainment options available onboard.

With a length of 42 metres, Blue Force One is undoubtedly spacious but, as an exclusive boat, it caters to a maximum of only 22 guests, accommodated in 11 fabulous cabins: seven wide double cabins, one junior suite, one master cabin and two master suites, all charmingly decorated, with en-suite full bathrooms, AC, TV and WI-FI. This luxury boat’s entertainment options include two hot tubs, three sun decks with sunbeds and mattresses, a bar on the upper deck with a refined drink selection, a living room with massage armchairs and TV and even its own disco room! Guests who enjoy aquatic activities other than diving are welcome to use the stand-up-paddleboards, surf boards and kayaks available. A gourmet menu has been carefully designed and all the meals prepared by the chef are served buffet style, so there are always plenty of delicious options available. An attentive crew will look after your needs the whole time to ensure your holidays are as smooth and enjoyable as you could possibly wish for.

THE DIVING

Blue Force One cruises the best dive routes in the Maldives and its professional team of dive instructors is one of the most experienced in the archipelago. They know Maldivian waters as the back of their hand and are passionate about guiding divers around the best dive sites and even uncovering some hidden gems, should the time of the year allow it – those mind-blowing unexplored dive sites you will want to share with your friends when you get home! They know exactly what marine life can be found in each location and will get out of their way to ensure you get to experience unforgettable encounters with the big pelagic the Maldives are famous for: manta rays, hammerheads and whale sharks. Other common sights are turtles, eagle rays, black-tip sharks, nurse sharks, groupers, an array of colourful reef fish and much more!

The dive sites are approached by a “Dhoni” – an 18 metres auxiliary Maldivian dive boat - where tanks are filled and dive gear is kept. This makes it easier to access dive spots where coral reefs are close to the surface, makes divers’ pick up a lot more comfortable and ensures that aboard Blue Force One the atmosphere is always peaceful and quiet (no tank filling noise!), avoiding equipment humidity related issues at the same time. The boat is rebreather friendly, can provide SORB (sofnolime), offers Nitrox for free and carries medical oxygen (100%) on board. 12 and 15 liters aluminium tanks are available. All this makes Blue Force One the #1 choice of the most sophisticated divers. Join this exclusive group and explore the Maldives through an unforgettable trip that combines adventure and luxury like no other!

WHEN TO GO

Conditions are at their best between October and May, but the diving is very good all year round, as pelagics are always present. Learn more about when to dive in the Maldives.

Week cruise, Saturday-Saturday (August to May) on board MALDIVES BLUE FORCE ONE. This is the best well-known route in Maldives but at the same time the one that offers best and most varied dives. We do this route almost all year long (from August to May) week after week. Thanks to that, we know every detail, atoll, passage, thilas and where and when it is convenient to approach every dive zone. It is a 7-night route including 6-dive days on board with embark and disembark at Male Airport (18 dives with 2-night dives).

The habitual itinerary goes by North and South Male Atolls, Felidhoo and Ari. The aim is to find pelagic grey sharks, white sharks, black-tip sharks and in some occasions hammerheads and dolphins, eagle rays and shoals of colorful fishes, morays, tuna fish, gild-head breams, groupers and turtles. Drifting dive in water passages and canals, thilas (submerged coral "seamounts"), cleaning stations where big mantas gather together to deworm themselves, will search for the whale shark (and if we are lucky will snorkel and even dive with the biggest fish). We will dive into a full-of-life wreck. Besides, there will be two spectacular night dives, one with mantas and the other with dozens of nurse sharks. Desert islands and typical fishermen villages are also visited to discover and enjoy a bit more of the country and if the weather allows to do so we will even dine on a desert beach. Although if you are longing to relax, you can enjoy the solarium and 2 jacuzzis on board. All this will make this cruise an excellent and unforgettable Great Dive Travel.

The MALDIVES BLUE FORCE team has planned the next cruise season in the SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE IN MALDIVES in the precise months where there are optimal conditions in this part of the country. The liveaboard will depart at the end of January Southern part in the archipelago where it will stay without returning to Male for 8 weeks with operation located in the Equatorial zone.

Itineraries

1) DEEP SOUTH DESCEND/DEEP SOUTH ASCENT: North Male, South Male, Ari, Vaavu, Meemu, Thaa, Laamu. Objectives: Mantas and whale shark in Ari, pelagic canals in Vaavu, Meemu, Thaa & Laamu.

2) SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE (Intermediate stage): Gaaf Alif - Foamulah - Addu / Addu - Foamulah - Gaaf Alif. Embarking and disembarking in Gan & Kooddoo depending on the stage.

GAAF: The second biggest atoll in the world is house for high concentration of sharks, especially the grey reef shark. But many surprises such as the giant hammerhead, silver tip or tiger sharks may arise, as well as the whale shark in presence of plankton. The almost virgin coral zones are also remarkable. Nights among green turtles, parsnips or the presence of a fish we only watch in the South, the lime harlequin fish that lives in schools among corals. Deserted beaches and fishermen islands where to see the authentic Maldives Islands, far away from tourism, having fishing or even farming as their way of living.

ADDU: Once base for the RAF & Royal Navy is a tiny atoll below Ecuador house for some always interesting dive sites; mantas in Mudakan, the British Loyalty shipwreck (the biggest wreck in Maldives) or the dives on the ocean corners among top-shaped corals, the night dive with humphead parrotfish and green turtles, pipefish...and out of the sea a walk along on the waterfront promenade and some drinks in one of its outdoor bars.

FOAMULAH: If weather permits, as there is no protection reef, we will approach this peculiar island - about 5 square km - and will dive the reef near the great blue, where we can watch schools of jacks, mantas, some sharks, Napoleon fish and always the chance to watch "specials" (here we have watched schools of over 50 pygmy killer whales around the ship and thresher sharks) as tigers, giant hammerheads, marlins, humphead parrotfish ... Then, the Maldives Blue Force One will enter the port and we will go for a spin in a pick up around the island visiting the freshwater lakes, its agricultural fields, its beaches and then we will have a snack and we do the second dive of the day before sailing towards Addu or stay and make a night dive in the outer arrecife and watch the big crabs.

Route objectives

Pelagic in the Deep South canals, thilas with corals like Maldives 25 years ago, Canals for shark watching, pelagic and the possibility of ocean watch. The whale shark by night, dive with mantas and the 62-year-old British Royalty shipwreck, which is 110 meters length and the biggest in Maldives. 2 WEEKS ROUTE MALE - GAN / GAN - MALE: Making 2 ongoing weeks is highly recommended. It goes from the central Atolls up to the Deep South in Maldives or the other way round adding to the stage Deep South Descent (departing From Male) or Deep south Ascent (arriving in Male) a week in the Southern Hemisphere (arriving or finishing in Gan).

I been in october and made the Central Maldives route with Blue Force One. My first liveaboard experience and I have been more than satisfied. I might be back soon! The boat was really luxury, great comfort, amazing food and the staff very funny, helpful and really professional. Diving from the liveaboard, with 3 dives a day, it makes your holiday very focus on diving and relaxing between the dives. And first time for me in Maldives as well and believe me every dives were amazing! Whales shark, manta rays, huge nurse sharks and many other incredible species. I really recommend the Blue Force team and the boat might be simply among the best one could find in Maldives. Thanks for all. Hope to see you soon!
