THE BOAT

The gorgeous Conte Max has been a favourite for many who explore the Maldives underwater world on a regular basis, as these divers know that few other vessels offer such a perfect combination of comfort, professionalism and wellbeing. This boat has been a reference amongst the Maldivian cruise industry since its launch, as it set a new trend by being the first one in the area to combine the adventurous spirit of a liveabord with an onboard Ayurveda spa.

The Conte Max caters for a maximum of 21 guests, accommodated in eight comfortable cabins with low, spacious beds, their own private bathroom and independently adjustable AC. On each cabin, as well as on the rest of the boat, great importance was given to the furniture, which is made of valuable local wood.

Since the Conte Max is a spacious boat 33 metres long, guests have plenty of space onboard and different relaxing areas to choose from, spread over three decks. An indoor saloon is furnished with comfortable sofas that can be used to watch a movie on the TV and DVD set available or simply relax while reading a book. Here is where you will also find a bar with a wide choice of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, as well as a station where you can recharge your photo and video cameras. Inviting sun loungers and mats, as well as deck chairs, are available on all decks and are ideal to rest while enjoying the breathtaking Maldivian landscape as the boat cruises along or is moored in the lagoons for the night.

Weather allowing it, meals are served at the outdoor dining area so that you can enjoy the sea breeze while savouring the delicious dishes prepared by the onboard chef, that combine Italian and international cuisine with a hint of the Maldivian exotic flavours. A buffet of traditional Maldivian dished is served once a week, so you get a more complete taste of the local gastronomy. An indoor restaurant is also available.

For an absolute pampering experience that will soothe both your body and mind, you can book a massage at the onboard spa specialising in Ayurvedic treatments. Other activities – also ideal for non-diving guests – include snorkeling, fishing, visiting sand strips and deserted islands or shopping traditional Maldivian souvenirs from the onboard boutique.

An attentive crew of 14 will be looking after all your needs the whole time to ensure you get to experience a break dedicated to wellbeing, relaxation and adventure that you will never forget!

THE DIVING

A team of experienced and professional dive guides will lead you so you get to see the very best of Maldives underwater, including the big pelagic animals this area is famous for: manta rays, whale sharks and even hammerheads! Other common sights include turtles, eagle rays, black-tip sharks, nurse sharks, groupers, an assortment of colourful reef fish and much more!

All diving and snorkeling activities are conducted from a 16 metres Maldivian dive boat operating as a tender, which allows for more precise and comfortable approaches to the dive sites. Nitrox is available for free and dive gear can be rented upon request with your booking. Rebreather dives are also available. To join a trip on this boat you must have a valid dive insurance from a reputable insurance company. The use of a dive computer is also mandatory.

And should you want to take the opportunity to further your dive education, the Conte Max offers all standard PADI courses during its cruises, as well as a variety of specialty courses.

WHEN TO GO

Conditions are at their best between October and May, but the diving is very good all year round, as pelagics are always present. Learn more about when to dive in the Maldives.

HOW TO GET THERE

Book your flight into Male International Airport, where you are requested to be at 08h30AM. Depending on the route you will be joining and its departure and arrival ports, an internal flight may be necessary and it will be organized by the boat operator. Please check your route details for further information. Domestic airfares are not included in the cost of the trip.

All the transfers, other than regular cruise arrivals and departures, will be arranged upon request by sea plane or speed boat and charges will be applied.

Maldives has a very special underwater landscape. The country has 26 gorgeous atolls - ring-shaped coral reefs that end up encircling relatively shallow lagoons. These are usually connected to the open ocean through different points through which the water enters and exits, originating channels (called “kandu” locally) with currents rich in nutrients that feed a vast range of fish, corals, sponges, gorgonians and other marine species. Based on the reefs’ geographical formation, diving activity in the Maldives can be carried out in either these channels, in the “thilas” or “giris” (underwater rock pinnacles that develop from 30-40 metres to nearly up the surface) or in the “faru” (the edge of the atolls). Points of interest: Explore these remote atolls and feel what the diving pioneers felt years ago, as much of this pristine area is still unchartered territory where your group will most likely be the only one in the water!

Join this itinerary and you will know how the diving pioneers felt years ago. Most of this area is still unchartered and very few dive sites are actually named – welcome to the extreme south! Here, resorts are rare and very few liveabords are found, which means you are likely to be the only divers for miles around. The marine life is abundant and the healthy corals are virtually untouched. You will be discovering Laamu atoll and its deep channels, where strong currents attract sharks, jacks, rays and tuna to hunt for the smaller and abundant reef fish. Further south, a thrilling exploration of Huvadhoo atoll (the largest in the Maldives), will give you the opportunity to discover several pristine reefs and lagoons visited by stingrays, loads of turtles and a variety of sharks, including black and white tip reef sharks, nurse sharks and occasionally hammerheads and even tiger sharks. This itinerary requires an internal flight on the first day from Male International airport and on the last day back to Male. You will have to book these internal flights depending on the route's departure and arrival port. The two domestic airports concerned are Kadhdhoo (KDO) in Laamu Atoll and Kooddoo (GKK) in Huvadhoo Atoll. You can contact us to help you organising it.
