THE BOAT

The beautiful Nautilus One is the perfect option for those wanting to explore the Maldives aboard a comfortable vessel built according to the traditional local style, thus fitting perfectly in the idyllic landscape of the archipelago.

This 30 metres long dive boat is made of traditional high quality Maldivian wood and accommodates 14 to 16 guests in seven comfortable cabins located on the lower deck, all with their own bathroom and individually controlled AC. Every cabin has a side window and a deck hatch that allows for natural lighting and ample ventilation.

The spacious Nautilus One has plenty of social areas you can enjoy after your dives. The main deck features an indoor dining area with an audio and video system and a bar offering an impressive choice of soft and alcoholic drinks. On this deck you will also find an inviting outdoor covered lounge where you can rest away from the sun while catching the sea breeze. From the foredeck, furnished with Maldivian style comfortable lounge chairs and sofas, is where you get the best views while crossing between the atolls, whereas the rear of the boat features more sitting areas, as well as a bathing platform for snorkeling or swimming in the beautiful lagoons. The large sun deck is the ideal place for sunbathing during the day with a cold drink in your hand and watching the stars at night while recalling your day of diving.

And because the Nautilus One caters for both divers and non-divers, there are many other activities available onboard apart from diving that make it the ideal option for anyone seeking tranquility and being in contact with nature, such as snorkeling and kitesurfing on the gorgeous Maldivian lagoons or catching you own dinner – that the kitchen staff will be very happy to prepare – using traditional fishing techniques.

Join this welcoming dive boat that combines tradition with modernity like no other and your dive holiday will surely be one to remember!

THE DIVING

The Maldivian waters are amongst the most amazing and pristine in the world and the Nautilus One’s experienced dive staff will guide you through its best dive sites, conducting detailed explorations that will allow you to fully experience its richness. Manta rays, several shark species, turtles and huge schools of reef dwellers are regular sights and the dive guides will also go out of their way to ensure you get to enjoy some fascinating macro life. All diving activities are conducted from the 18 metres Maldivian dive tender – the Araakuri - which allows for more precise and comfortable approaches to the dive sites. This is also where dive gear is kept, with guests getting their own individual storage space, and where the compressors are located, meaning that the main boat is free of tank filling noise at all times. Nitrox is available for those holding a Nitrox certification.

WHEN TO GO

Conditions are at their best between October and May, but the diving is very good all year round, as pelagics are always present. Learn more about when to dive in the Maldives.

HOW TO GET THERE

Maldives has a very special underwater landscape. The country has 26 gorgeous atolls - ring-shaped coral reefs that end up encircling relatively shallow lagoons. These are usually connected to the open ocean through different points through which the water enters and exits, originating channels (called “kandu” locally) with currents rich in nutrients that feed a vast range of fish, corals, sponges, gorgonians and other marine species. Based on the reefs’ geographical formation, diving activity in the Maldives can be carried out in either these channels, in the “thilas” or “giris” (underwater rock pinnacles that develop from 30-40 metres to nearly up the surface) or in the “faru” (the edge of the atolls). Learn more about the coral reef system of the Maldives.

Points of interest: Head south and explore South Male atoll - considered one of the best areas for liveaboards in the Maldives - and Felidhu atoll - less explored and also with a reputation as one of the finest atolls in the archipelago.

This route takes you south and explores South Male and Felidhu atolls. South Male atoll is considered one of the best areas for liveaboards in the Maldives thanks to its multitude of channels with nutrient rich waters that attract pelagics and huge schools of smaller fish and allow for gorgeous displays of colourful soft corals. Its many overhangs and ravines provide shelter from the strong currents that attract eagle rays, large schools of fusiliers, sweetlips, snappers, groupers and sharks patrolling the reef channels and walls. Other common sights include moray eels, lionfish, huge sea fans and schooling trevallies. Further south, Felidhu atoll is more isolated and less developed than many other atolls but has gained its reputation as one of the finest atolls in Maldives, where sharks, manta rays and other pelagic are commonly spotted during dives. You will be visiting Fotheo - a favourite for many divers and counted as one of the top five dive sites in the world. Common species on this atoll include grey reef sharks, giant tunas, eagle rays and many other colourful reef fish. Hammerheads may also be seen.
